For the release of Dragonball Evolution, I was lucky enough to get to interview Emmy via telephone. The text below is a transcript of the interview I had with Emmy on March 29, 2009. :)

Emmy: I was definently nervous about meeting Chow Yun-Fat. Um - and Steven Chow too because I really respect everything he's done in the action genre he's really kind of established and created. James Wong also. I really respect everything he did with the Final Destination series. I mean, creating a series where there's no real indentifiable evil - but it's so scary, there's not a bad guy but it's really scary. I was really impressed by that and he was a very sensitive, fun person to work with. I'm always nervous going into every job - I think I'm going to get fired. I pray at night that I, you know, I'll work hard enough so that I won't get fired. So um - I'm always nervous going into work. I think... I think everyone is.
Brooke: I know what you mean. I feel the same way when I go to work.
Emmy: I know. You always think, like, "Oh my gosh. This is the day that I'm going to mess up." and suddenly everyone's going to realize that I'm a joke and I don't know what I'm doing. Every moment is like a Bridgett Jones's moment for me.
Brooke: Veering away from Dragonball, may I ask you a few personal questions?
Emmy: Not at all!
Brooke: How is you new album coming along, what sort of genre are you aiming for, and when will it be released?
Emmy: Those are all very good questions that I wish I had the answers to - Oh my gosh! There's a spider crawling up my leg!
Brooke: Oh my gosh!
Emmy: Oh, it's tiny though. It's on my jeans. It's super random - I feel like I'm back in Mexico where there are taranchulas everywhere. Um - I don't know the answers to those questions. I mean, I'm still trying to find it. I think every artiist kind of explores and I wish I had a more distinct answer for you, but the answer is... I don't know yet. I'm getting really close to finding out what that is and I'm still writing. I'm in about, probably, 25 songs and I'm hoping, you know, end of the year. Everything is such an exploration, you know? Like I think people will always ask "what's the genre?" and I'm sure it'll have some elements of my first record. Um - but not be the same at all and make sure it'll have some elements from, you know, more classical backgrounds. I'm sure it'll have elements of different things as well. It's just really a question of when every artist travels and is influenced by different cultures and different artists and different experiences they had personally. It changes you and that's why I think your music evolves.
Brooke: That's very insightful.
Emmy: Thank you. I kind of - I didn't really know what I was saying until halfway through it.
Brooke: My next question is... do you remember the first time you performed on stage and what do you remember about it?
Emmy: Yes. Um - I remember being incrediably nervous until I walked out onstage and it was like another dimension opened. There were horses and donkeys and I kind of realized that there were 5,000 people in the audience and I kind of... I had such a sense of joy. I think a lot of people feel like, you know, they don't quite fit in in the world. I know I really felt that when I was a kid, and sometimes still feel that, and I think when you have that kind of epiphany or that "Ah ha!" moment where that light bulb goes off and you realize what it is that you were meant to do or where it is in the world where you feel most comfortable and that was that moment for me. I just kind of walked out and I heard the music and it was this world where I wasn't weird anymore and I feel like I told this story before - maybe you've heard it - but it was really just, like, a beautiful, exciting moment for me because I remember thinking that I didn't have to worry about, you know, stuff like "did my hair look good" or "did I have a pimple". I just got to be myself in a way that made me really, truely happy.
Brooke: I can totally relate to you in that aspect.
Emmy: I'm glad I'm not the only one.
Brooke: I'm sure you and I aren't the only ones that feel/felt this way before. I know I'm probably running out of time so my next question is - if you could play any role in a Broadway musical, what would it be and why?
Emmy: I love Wicked. I just love the two main characters. I absolutely adore Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth. I really like Kristin on The West Wing too. I love her.
Brooke: I love Wicked as well. I've seen it 4 times. I also love Kristin and Idina too. I love musical in general.
Emmy: Me too! Did you know they're remaking Jesus Christ Superstar?
Brooke: Really? No, I didn't.
Emmy: Yeah - at least... I think so.
Brooke: That's really cool! Thanks for telling me that. I love Andrew Llyod Webber's musicals. They're amazing! I'm actually in a production of one right now.
Emmy: Which one?
Brooke: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Emmy: Really? I love that one! Go ALW! You know, we have a lot in common. We're, like, best friends now!
Brooke: Yeah, I guess we do. (laughs)
Emmy: I've seen it twice. But um - I really like Damn Yankees and Lola. Lola is a really great show and I'd be honored if I got to be in that. If the oppertunity came, I think I'd definently want to be in Wicked. Okay, they're telling me I only have time for one more question.
Brooke: Perfect timing, because this is the last question I was planning on asking you. Do you have any new film projects coming up?
Emmy: I thought this was going to be a question about Justin! (laughs) Um, well - there's Dare that's going to come out later this year. It was a very different experience for me and then I have a new film that's in the early stages of development so I'm really excited for that.
Brooke: Well, I know you have to go so I won't keep you any longer. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to conduct thsi interview. You don't know how much I apprechiate it. I knew this was going to be timed, but I had some fans submit questions for this interview and I was wondering if somehow you could, I don't know, answer some of them on, like, myspace or something?
Emmy: Sure! Do you have a twitter?
Brooke: Yes, I'm addicted to it.
Emmy: Me too! I'm always like "brushing my teeth... combing my hair".
Brooke: My username is actresssinger7, by the way.
Emmy: Actresssinger7... hold on, I'm writing that down in my blackberry. I'm such a crackberry. (laughs)
Brooke: Thanks again for conducting this interview with me. I really appreachiate it.
Emmy: No problem! Bye Brooke.
Brooke: Bye Emmy.

Go back...
